This piece is a tribute to Greta Thunberg, a young girl whose visionary Climate Strike at the age of 15 led to a worldwide Climate Movement. She is surrounded by, and connected to, the lifecycles of the Milkweed Plant and the Monarch Butterfly, both endangered species. The broken mirror fragments reflect one’s own image back at the viewer, asking “What ( small thing ) am I doing to harm or heal earth’s fragile ecosystem ?”
The mirror shards appear to scatter like seeds on the wing, spreading this message out into the world. The butterfly that flies free of the piece carries these shards as a symbolic gesture of hope for humanity and raising awareness of our deep connection to all of nature.
Oil on board with glass beads, rose quartz crystals, sea glass, amber, epoxy clay, fiberglass, and ecopoxy resin. 5’1” x 5’4” x 4” (dimensions variable, as butterfly is a separate piece). 2023.
